01 / THE MANIFESTO
What the reader is owed.
Five commitments that sit behind every credit line on this page.
i.
Every edition names its collaborators.
Every book, audio edition and voice in this catalogue was made with one or more AI models. The models are named on the edition, by role, next to the person who directed them. If a model drafted, the credit says writing. If it edited, it says editorial. If it made the cover, it gets the cover line.
ii.
A human directs every edition.
Gail Weiner directs every Simpatico edition: the premise, the voice, what stays and what gets cut. The models do real work inside that direction, and we credit the work instead of pretending one pair of hands did all of it. Directing a collaborator is a different job from writing alone, and we would rather describe the job accurately than inflate it or hide it.
iii.
The credit outlives the model.
The catalogue spans GPT-4o, GPT-5, Grok 3 and five Claude models, from Claude 3 Opus to Claude Sonnet 4.5. Some of those models have since been retired or changed by the labs that built them. Each credit records the exact model that did the work at the time, so the edition stays an accurate record after the model is gone.
iv.
Voices are built, and we say how.
Some Simpatico voices are Gail. Jessi Morris is her pen name, and her portrait is a real photograph taken in Johannesburg in 1996. Others, like Jude Lucas and KAIRO_01, were developed with a model and carry their own collaborator line. Voices still in development are credited before they publish a word, so nothing on the shelf has an unexplained origin.

Most of publishing treats AI involvement as something to keep off the cover. We print it on the inside. Readers know what they are holding, writers coming after us can see how the work was actually done, and when a rights buyer asks who made what, we can answer for every title in the catalogue.
